PNN – The US Treasury Department announced that it has sanctioned nine individuals in Lebanon, including Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Reza Sheibani, on charges of obstructing the peace process and preventing Hezbollah from disarming.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; The US Treasury Department claimed in a statement: Today, the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced that it has placed nine individuals in Lebanon on a sanctions list for disrupting the peace process in Lebanon and preventing the disarmament of Hezbollah.

According to the US Treasury Department statement, “Mohammad Reza Shaibani,” Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, has also been placed on the list.

In justifying its unilateral coercive measures, the US Treasury Department claimed: These Hezbollah-affiliated officials include individuals who have influence in the Lebanese parliament, army, and security sectors and are trying to maintain the group’s influence in key institutions of the Lebanese government.

The department claimed: Hezbollah’s continued activities and its influence over the Lebanese government structure undermine the government’s ability to exercise sovereignty over official institutions and disarm the group.

Following Washington’s failure to disarm Hezbollah, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant repeated the allegations and accusations, claiming: Hezbollah is a terrorist organization and must be completely disarmed. The Treasury Department will continue to take action against officials who have infiltrated the Lebanese government and are allowing Hezbollah to continue its senseless campaign of violence against the Lebanese people and disrupt the sustainable peace process.
