Washington’s plan for a 21-day ceasefire between Hezbollah and the Zionist regime.

Washington’s plan for a 21-day ceasefire between Hezbollah and the Zionist regime.

According to Al Jazeera, the United States announced a joint plan with a number of Western and Arab countries to call for a 21-day ceasefire between Lebanon’s Hezbollah and the Zionist regime in order to provide a suitable environment for reaching a political solution.

In a joint statement released Thursday, US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron announced: “We have been working in recent days on this joint call for a temporary ceasefire to give diplomacy a chance to succeed and avoid further escalation.” to prevent at the borders of Lebanon and Israel.”

“The statement we negotiated now has the support of the United States, Australia, Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar,” Biden and Macron added.

The joint statement of these countries states: “The time has come for a diplomatic solution to be signed so that civilians on both sides of the border can safely return to their homes.”

They added: “Diplomacy cannot be successful amid an escalation of this conflict, so we call for an immediate 21-day ceasefire on the Lebanese-Israeli border to give diplomacy a chance to find a solution.”

A senior US official described the joint invitation as an “important development” and told reporters that Washington hoped the move would help efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and release prisoners. Another US official said Washington expects Lebanon and Israel to decide “within hours” whether to respond positively to the request.

He added: “We have discussed this with the parties and we feel that this is the right moment.” In Western and Hebrew media reports, officials doubted the plan’s success.

An American official told the “New York Times” newspaper that there is no definite confirmation about the readiness of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of the Zionist regime, and Hassan Nasrallah, the Secretary General of Hezbollah, to accept a ceasefire. The “Bloomberg” network also reported, citing Western officials, that the efforts of the United States and France to stop the war between Hezbollah and the Zionist regime have no guarantee of success.

“Bloomberg” added that the peace proposals include the regime’s refraining from a ground attack and Hezbollah’s refraining from sending troops to southern Lebanon.

On the other hand, the Zionist newspaper “Israel Hum” quoted an unnamed political source as reporting that “Nasrallah’s rejection of the ceasefire proposal will give Israel more legitimacy to deepen its military operations in Lebanon.”
This newspaper added that Netanyahu has authorized Ron Dermer, the Minister of Strategic Affairs of the Zionist regime, to announce the regime’s readiness to negotiate a ceasefire with the United States.
