Who is Morgan Ortagus? Trump’s nominee for deputy special presidential envoy for Middle East peace.
US President-elect Donald Trump on Friday appointed Morgan Ortagus as deputy special presidential envoy for Middle East peace.
Ortagus is set to serve as deputy to real estate executive Steven Witkoff, whom Trump appointed in November as special envoy to the Middle East.
“She will hopefully be an asset to Steve, a great leader, and talent, as we seek to bring calm and prosperity to a very troubled region. I expect great results, and soon,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Ortagus said she was “honored” by the appointment.
“To be allowed to once again represent my country and the Trump Administration in a crucial diplomatic role is a dream come true,” she wrote on X.
Trump tries to complete his future cabinet, US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday evening that he had selected Morgan Ortagus as the US President’s deputy special envoy for Middle East peace, Steve Whittaker; a message whose language clearly shows that Trump had little role in this selection and that it was influenced by Republicans and Ortagus’ excessive influence.
In his message after announcing Ortagus’ new position, Trump wrote without mentioning details, “…in the past, she (Ortagus) opposed me for three years, but I hope she has learned her lesson. These things usually don’t work. I am not doing this (appointment) for myself, but for the Republicans who strongly support Ortagus. We will see what happens.”
