PNN – Widespread protests took place in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate against Ramstein, the largest U.S. military base outside American territory. Germans expressed their dissatisfaction with the military cooperation between Berlin and Washington, which they believe drags Germany into global conflicts across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the demonstration was organized by the “Stop Air Base Ramstein” movement, which has consistently called for the closure of this military facility since 2015. Once again, activists and concerned citizens gathered right outside the base’s gates, and images of the large crowd—bearing placards and banners—rapidly circulated through global news agencies.
Prominent among the protesters’ slogans were calls for the peaceful resolution of all conflicts and for friendship among nations. Slogans opposing the unregulated shipment of arms to Ukraine and France’s neocolonial policies in Africa were also visible.
Participants in the protest maintain that this military base—actively used by the U.S. Air Force for combat operations—must cease its activities.
The protesters’ primary allegation is that the German government has, for years, knowingly concealed the true role of Ramstein Air Base in the so-called “drone war” waged by the United States. According to the protesters, the base has evolved beyond a mere logistics hub into a direct link in the decision-making and data-transmission chain for drone strikes that result in civilian casualties.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Ramstein has become a key logistical hub for U.S. military operations. The transfer of equipment, ammunition, and personnel—including for operations involving Iran—is conducted through this base. A permanent presence in Europe enables the Pentagon to significantly expand the operational reach of its air force.
Participants in the rally once again called on federal authorities to reconsider commitments that turn German soil into part of a global military infrastructure. The core idea behind the protest has remained unchanged for over a decade: an end to the use of German soil for undeclared wars and the closure of Ramstein Air Base.
