PNN – Citing Saudi Arabia’s isolation, a French media outlet Le Figaro reported that none of Riyadh’s allies are willing to enter the war in Yemen.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; while all Saudi efforts to form a coalition to participate in the war against Yemen have failed—and even the United States is unwilling to directly engage in the conflict with the Yemenis—the French newspaper Le Figaro reported that Saudi Arabia has become isolated in the face of escalating attacks by the Houthis (Ansarullah), despite its extensive network of regional alliances.
Pointing to repeated Yemeni attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities and critical infrastructure, Le Figaro emphasized that Riyadh’s isolation reflects the diminishing effectiveness of its traditional regional alliances.
The French newspaper added that the U.S. has scaled back its military presence in the region, while the UAE has turned its attention to other matters, leaving the Saudis largely on their own to confront the Houthi threat.
The report further notes that negotiations are currently underway between Saudi and American parties regarding ways to enhance intelligence and logistical support. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is actively seeking to forge new relationships with other international players to compensate for the shortfall in traditional forms of support.
Le Figaro adds that this isolation confronts Saudi Arabia with difficult choices in managing the conflict with the Houthis. Furthermore, the current situation strengthens the regional position of Iran—an ally of the Yemenis—even as pressure mounts on Riyadh to pursue diplomatic solutions regarding Yemen, given the ineffectiveness of military options.
