PNN – Director of the Second Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and the country’s special representative in Afghanistan said: This country has invited representatives of the Taliban (as the head of the Afghan government) to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network from TASS news agency, in response to the question about what issues will be discussed with the Taliban representatives in this meeting, Zamir Kabulov said that there are very promising fields of cooperation.
He continued: Traditionally, Afghans are interested in continuing cooperation in buying oil products and other goods from Russia.
This Russian diplomat said: We can talk about using Afghanistan’s transit capacities in order to expand trade exchanges with this country.
Kabulov added: An invitation has been sent to the Taliban, and I don’t know what kind of participation they will have.
Russia had previously invited Taliban officials as the head of the Afghan government to the Russia-Islamic World economic cooperation summit in Kazan. This meeting was held in the center of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia.
In an interview after meeting with JP Singh, the regional secretary general of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan said: I don’t want to say that the Taliban has become our (Russia’s) number one friend, but it is definitely not our enemy either.

The 27th St. Petersburg Economic Forum will be held from June 5th to 8th with the presence of some presidents, prime ministers and economic ministers of different countries. The executive secretary of the St. Petersburg International Forum noted: The platform of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum creates opportunities for discussions at the highest level, expands ideas, solutions and initiatives in all spheres of public life and activities of the governments participating in its work.
The business program of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024 includes four thematic axes: transition to a multipolar model of the world economy, Russian economy: Goals and objectives of the new cycle”, “Technologies that provide excellence” and “Healthy society, traditional values” and social development – government priorities”.
The program of events on the international track of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024 includes more than 10 business dialogues, including the formats of the Eurasian Economic Union and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Russia-Africa, Russia-Latin America, Russia-China, Russia – South Africa and other bilateral meetings.
The slogan of the International Youth Economic Forum 2024, which will be held on June 8, is “The Day of the Future”. Its program will include workshops, master classes and specialized sessions on issues related to youth.
