PNN – The UAE tried to persuade Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other Gulf neighbors for a coordinated military response against Iran.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Bloomberg reported that the United Arab Emirates had tried to convince Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Gulf neighbors to participate in a coordinated military response to Iran’s attacks, but the effort was met with opposition.
Abu Dhabi’s failure to garner support from regional allies was a major factor in its decision to withdraw from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and to strengthen security cooperation with Israel, the report said.
The UAE had carried out limited strikes against Iran since early March, while Iran fired nearly 3,000 drones and missiles at the UAE before a fragile ceasefire was reached on April 8, according to Bloomberg.
According to the report, Saudi Arabia also launched attacks on Iran in March, but then changed course and supported Pakistan’s mediation efforts to reach an agreement between Washington and Tehran.
Qatar also considered a military response after Iran targeted one of its liquefied natural gas facilities, but ultimately decided to pursue a de-escalation path.
In contrast, Bahrain and Kuwait have chosen to distance themselves completely from the conflict and not engage in direct confrontation with Iran.
